How to recognize fake news on social media

1. Check the Source: Verify the credibility of the website or publication. Established news organizations are more likely to provide accurate information. Look for an "About" page or check their history.

2. Look for Supporting Evidence: A legitimate news story should be backed by evidence, such as quotes from experts, data, or reliable sources. If the article lacks these, it may be a red flag.

3. Examine the Headlines: Sensational or misleading headlines are common in fake news. If a headline seems outrageous or too good (or bad) to be true, it’s worth investigating further.

4. Check the Date: Sometimes old articles are shared as if they are new. Verify the publication date to ensure the information is current and relevant.

5. Cross-Reference Information: Look for the same news story on multiple reputable sources. If other credible news outlets are not reporting the same information, it could be false.
